Merck
& Co. has voluntarily withdrawn the drug
Vioxx from the market in all countries because
of it's associations with heart attacks, cardiovascular
injuries, strokes, and other side effects.
Merck removed Vioxx after an internal study
showed patients using Vioxx had a higher risk
of heart problems.
After
approval in 1999, Vioxx is now taken by approximately
2 million people worldwide. Merck is also
responsible for a misleading advertising campaign
towards Vioxx. |
 |
The
risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular
problems are two times greater in people who take
Vioxx over those who take Naproxen. Other serious
side effects associated with Vioxx usage are intestinal
bleeding, stomach bleeding and respiratory infection.
Since 1999, over 91 million prescriptions have been
written for Vioxx.
As with any other claim, there is a mandatory time,
otherwise known as a statute of limitations, in
which the claim must be filed. Failure to file your
claim immediately may undermine the validity of
your case.
