Dear Riders:Associates &
Bruce L. Scheiner, Personal Injury Lawyers, P.A., is entering our
9th Annual Motorcycle Awareness Program, to promote safety and
respect for motorcycling in Southwest Florida. Since 1994, we have
proudly distributed motorcycle safety information to motorcycle
riders in Southwest Florida.
As the riding season gets into full swing and in keeping with our
firm's theme "Whatever You Ride, Ride Safe," I encourage all
motorcycle riders to take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Rider's
Course which |
 |
can be either a beginner or an advanced
course. Even the most experienced rider can always learn something
from one of these courses. For a list of motorcycle safety courses in
your area, please call our office at (239)939-2900 or call toll-free
at 1-800-283-2900.
The information in our Motorcycle Awareness Program is designed to
keep you safe and out of a lawyer's office.
Finally, we hope that everyone has a most enjoyable and safe riding
season!
Very Truly Yours,
Associates & Bruce L.

Keep Your Bike Safe

Courtesy of Sgt.
Robert Kenney, Auto/Motorcycle Theft Division, CT State Police
- Park your motorcycle in an area
that has good lighting and is in a very visible location.
Restaurants/Bars - park where you can see the bike from the
facility.
- Use good quality locking
devices. Cheap process usually means cheap locks. The CLUB wheel
lock and other such heavy-duty locks are difficult to defeat. If
you buy a padlock for $5.00, it is probably going to be easily
defeated or cut.
- Use multiple locking devices
whenever possible. Include a Fork Lock, dick lock, and/or wheel
locks.
- Secure the motorcycle to a
non-movable object if possible. Telephone pole, parking meter or
a traffic sign is usually very secure.
- Most thefts occur when a
motorcycle is parked in a public area. In many cases, the biker
leaves the motorcycle unlocked, believing that he or she will be
close by. Many of the bike thieves follow motorcycles and wait
for an opportunity to steal them. These thieves also follow
bikers home to learn where the motorcycle is stored.
|
- The most common motorcycle
stolen is the Harley Davidson softail models. This is due to the
fact that is the most common model and the parts are common to
many other motorcycles.
- What happens when motorcycle is
stolen? The most common thing that we encounter is the
motorcycle is disassembled for parts. In many cases, the
numbered parts are replaced with aftermarket parts and a "New"
motorcycle is born. The best way to identify your motorcycle is
with personal edification marking on as many parts as possible.
Some motorcycles have the identification numbers changed or may
be exported out of state or country.

How to Improve Tire Performance

Most complaints of poor
handling and performance can be a result of overloading and
improper tire inflation. This can be solved by first checking the
tire sidewalls for information on your tires' load capacities and
recommended tire pressures. Check your owner's manual or ask a
qualified service technician about your particular motorcycle's
recommended load capacity and tire inflation. Most importantly,
check tire pressure often. Remember your tires stand between you
and a serious accident.
