MADD, Sheriff launch campaign to keep
drinkers off the streets
In partnership with the Lee
County Sheriff's Office and Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner, MADD
SWFL is proud to offer to Lee County drivers "Mobile Eyes".
Who among us has never said, " There's never a cop around when you
want one." Now you can be a second pair of eyes for local law
enforcement officers by utilizing your cellular phone when you
spot what you believe to be an impaired driver. You can help make
our roads safer by calling 911 to report the driver, giving
pertinent information to the 911 |

dispatcher who will then pass along the
information to nearby officers. Hopefully, we will save lives through
this program by preventing DUI crashes before they happen. If the
responding officer makes a DUI arrest, the caller will be eligible for
a $100 reward. There is a lifetime maximum reward limit of $500.
Promoted and funded by our own MADD member, Bruce L. Scheiner, this
program is a take-off of a similar program in Palm Beach County. It is
a bold attempt to make Lee County residents aware of the dangers of
driving under the influence of alcohol or other illicit drugs, and at
the same time, taking responsibility for safety on our streets. Now
citizens can take an active role in apprehending drunk drivers.
MADD members Sgt. Jerry Cantrell and Lt. Dennis Brooks, and MADD
member Sheriff Rod Shoap, deserve a lot of credit for putting this
program together. In addition, attorney Bruce L. Scheiner has put up
ten billboards around Lee County and has printed thousands of fliers
and bumper stickers to promote "Mobile Eyes" at his own cost. What a
great program! Thank you for caring.
