Autism is a lifelong, developmental disability that adversely affects cognitive, social, communication and behavioral functioning. Autism knows no ethnic, social, or economic boundaries and is not simply a challenge for a few families scattered across the United States. One person may be only mildly affected by autism and may respond well to one form of treatment. Another person may have more severe symptoms and need an entirely different therapeutic approach. Each case is different and requires and individualized assessment and program. Although at present no cure is known, autism is treatable; many children and adults can improve and become productive, contributing members of society.

Eden Florida is the newest outreach effort of the Eden Family of Services, at 24 years old New Jersey based non-profit organization whose unique mission is to provide lifespan services for individuals with autism, as well as support and assistance for their families. Eden Florida was founded in 1996 to meet Florida's pressing need for individualized specialized and comprehensive services for people with autism and families. To help meet this need, Eden Florida offers a wide variety of services designed to:

- Enable children and adults with autism to reach their full potential

- Train parents how to become resourceful advocates for their children

- Empower parents to effectively use therapeutic techniques with their children

- Assist schools, physicians and other professionals in making best use of their resources to provide services to people with autism.

Autism is a devastating, lifelong disability that presents many challenges to the individual, his or her family, and to the community. Parents of children with autism living within Southwestern Florida face an even greater challenge - where to find quality services that will help to enable their sons and daughters to lead full and productive lives as contributing members of their communities. Eden Florida was established to meet those needs.
