Negligent security cases involve the injury or death of individuals, caused by carelessness or neglect on the part of property owners and businesses. These cases involve human suffering that normal precaution would have prevented. Such cases may involve rape or assault in parking lots, apartment complexes, hotels or motels, convenience stores, and other types of businesses. Associates & Bruce L. Scheiner, Personal Injury Lawyers, P.A. has experience handling these types of claims.

Important Information For Persons Harmed By A Criminal Act On Business Property

Customers have certain rights for their personal safety while they are on business property. Businesses and property owners have a legal obligation to provide a reasonably safe environment for the people using their property. Examples of reasonable precautions businesses must take include providing sturdy locks on all doors and windows, keeping hallways and common areas well lit, and making sure there are no suspicious-looking people hanging around the property.

Fortunately, most businesses recognize the rights of their customers and take reasonable measures to provide a safe environment. However, to protect themselves when they fail to meet these responsibilities, most businesses carry premises liability insurance to compensate people who are injured or assaulted on the business property.

For example, suppose a woman is beaten and raped as she is entering her hotel room. Several other similar incidents have occurred at the hotel and have been reported to the owner and police. If the owner failed to take reasonable security measures, he may be held accountable for the injuries and mental trauma suffered by the victim. Money doesn't erase the victim's trauma. But it does punish a negligent property owner and prevent future incidents.

Associates & Bruce L. Scheiner has experience in representing people who were assaulted on business property. We understand the sensitive nature of these types of cases. Remember, businesses must make reasonable efforts to keep their customers safe.
